Akadama information:
Akadama is a naturally occurring, granular clay-like mineral. It has good water-retention and aeration properties. Though primarily popular for bonsai uses, we have found it to be a good stand-alone media or mixed with pumice for a wide variety of Nepenthes.
Pumice information:
Sourced from our local Jemez Mountains, pumice is a volcanic material which makes a great addition to many media mixes, capable to taking the place of perlite with the advantage that it doesn’t float or blow away. It is also much more resistant to being crushed than perlite. We also use it extensively as a stand-alone media for Mexican Pinguicula.
Our large Nepenthes palawanesis has been thriving in an akadama-pumice mix for several years.
